Nec Bike show trash. Ok time to don the anorack and spot motorcycles i can neither afford/want/both!!! Have to say this was a bith same old from last year. But some interesting stuff there non the less. First the GS.... there again! Most interesting display was from Yamaha. Now for the scoots. The big scoots seem to be the latest in thing and were the most interesting bikes at the show... Piaggio Honda Kawasaki had an intersting take on the W800... hope this is produced!! The electric bikes were here..... funny things that really mess with your head.... brilliant though. I wish they were cheaper The engine... Ok on to the classics... Coventry transport museum were there in force and with the best stand of the show. Proof that Rover didn't just make cars.... Drool..... 1938 speed twin..... drool.... A horde of triumphs.... In there is a W3, a speed twin, a 1959 bonnie (more drool), a 21 (3t), and a couple other I can't remember... Non bikes.... the Axiam cars were here (sorry, quadracycles...) anyone remember the DAF??? 2 cylinger 500cc and 34bhp.... capable of 30mph. Prime for an R1 conversion if you ask me!!! Them a beutiful morgan style three wheeler.... I WANT!! Uses a Yamaha 535 virago engine and drive. (the back wheel is virago as well). Looked amazing. On the way out I ran into this..... Bransons space plane.. or a mock up at least. Is very impressive. Thats all! Matchless trash. I'm still going. Spent friday paint stripping. Most of the frame is now done! More updates soon!!!

Tighten the clutch adjuster. Make sure you have son free play when the lever is fully out though or you'll have a slipping clutch

If you have any DVLA registration problems and feel like you are banging against a stonewall of the DVLA use this guy.
e-mail: worthycomments@btconnect.com
He usually charges £30 plus any other costs (usually nothing) and will sort out what you need to do. Trust me he's good.

Arrrrggghhhhh..... The GS is still playing up! It's decided not to start again.... seems that the battery chewing may have been a red herring.... it seems that the symptoms are somthing else.... hopefully a dodgy starter switch. I true blue peter fashion.... with a battery cut off switch, some wire and much cable ties we get A manual starter switch..... bodgetastic!! still needs the key to turn the ignition on so the bike is as secure as ever. Seemed to work well this morning..... a few more goes and a new starter swich will be required.

To catch oil.....?
Ironically the covers do not go under the engine. It is a pure styling exercise to hide the gubbins of the bike.
They are quite rare not as the covers were only plastic and tended to either crack or get ditched as they were in the way!

Hmmmm.... long time no update! All has been moving a pace with the bikes (apart from the matchless which isn't really in a position to move anywhere!) The cub has broken down, the GS refuse to start, the SV run lovely and the Matchless has been worked on. GS Trash. The lovely GS decided to throw it's elecrical rattle out the pram and eat another battery. Much head scraching and cursing later it was found that the regulator was intemittently spitting out 18V into the battery..... So on the the Bay of E for a second hand one. Recomendation to A1 Motorbikes as they delivered one in very short time and very cheaply. Matchless trash. Boring paperwork..... had to get the old V5 converted to a V5C in order to get the bike on the system and in my name. rather than face the hassle of doing it myself I had a guy in Cardiff called Mike Worthinton Williams (worthycomments@btconnect.com) to do the legwork. For a few quid more than the form he did the whole thing in a few days. Top bloke if you need anything out of the ordinary from the DVLA. On other fronts the painting and dissassemby has been continuing... both brakes are now apart and the first bits are nearly sprayed. Have got the proper tail light and done a deal for the proper headlight! Triumph Trash. Can I now say the Cub is cured of it's problems...... will it now stay running? I hope so. The latest culprit is the distributor. Through friends of friends a very second hand one was sourced and after spending an evening cleaning it up and swapping bits over it was put on the bike. So off to Weston Super Mare for the VOC meet. Any excuse to go to the seaside (even if it was foggy and cold) and the cub behaved faultlessly over the 85 miles covered. Here it is looking at the rides.... Now what ownes this.... capable of injesting small children... This! A Thruxton Venom... Proof that not all Vleocettes are black comes in the form of this lovely Venom ...and Venom Veeline with the Viper adding a bit of black!!!

According to Amal the carb should be a 1 1/16" 376 Monoblock. However a similar AJS was fitted with the 389 and it had the settings:
Bore: 1 1/8" Main Jet: 260 Needle Jet: .106 Pilot Jet: .25 Cutaway: 3 Needle pos: 3
Hope this helps.

Have you cleaned the tank out lately??? sounds like rust. Check the filter in the banjo for crud.
The slider sticking is probably airborn corrosion. Bear in mind the slider should only ever see a small amount of fuel off of the needle.

Ok time to bore the pants off ya'all again.... With the modern bikes deciding to run for the time being the focus has shifted to the old tat.... Triumph trash. Ever since buying the bike I've had intermittent problems with the clutch. Finally on the way back from a ride it decided that enough was enough and stopped de-clutching. Once home the spanners came out and the problem was quickly found.... there should the a 5/32" ball bearing in one end of the pusher rod (awol) and a hardened screw at the other (or in this case a normal grub screw!) The pusher had bored a 3mm deep hole into the grub screw hence the issue.... how to resolve this.... Drill the hole a fraction deeper and loctite in a 5/32" ball bearing!!! Also put the ball bearing where it should be in the other end and the difference is amazing.... the engine actually ticks over quicker and the clutch is lovely and smooth!!! Result! Matchless Trash. Polished the tank.... see below... is the original 50 year old paint and chrome! In other news I've started stripping paint and re-painting bits.... Got to start this before the cold sets in as I'm in an un-heated garage. Will take piccies as soon as it's light when I stop work! Hoped to be lazy and paint over the original paint on the frame.... this idea vanished along with the paint at the first touch of the wire brush.... seemend it was badly re-painted at some point... out with the paint stripper!!

Oh and the tank idea sounds cool in theory. In reality I'm not sure lol. It's been done lots of times. Recently MZ had it on their Mastiff trailies and Buell used it (in the swing arm!!!) on the Lightning series of bikes. One of the best ones I was was a Brough Superior and sidecar, where the frame of the sidecar acted as a reserve petrol tank.... not dodgy for the passenger at all.....
