Hey all, Im dean. Just bought my first ever bike, its nothing special, just something to get me from a-b and a bit of greenlaning/offroad fun at weekends! She's a 1989 Yamaha DT125R: Put it in for MOT last week and failed on a few things, worst being a knackered rear shock, so not bad for a 22yr old bike! Re-test is Wednesday providing new shock gets here in time! Going to be doing my full licence sometime in the coming 6 months, and am looking at around an 89/90 CBR 600F as my first big bike

Do prefer these to the XT's, a mate of mine had an XT125 for a bit. I didn't think it looked as good as the DT, he part ex'd it for a XT660 when he passed his test.....That was a nice bike.

Cheers for the welcome lads. PV is now back shut until i get a servo kit. Was fully open and yeah it was great fun over 6.5k, but utterly useless before, not really the ideal commuter bike. Its perky enough as it is at the mo, all i need it for is to get me around, and the odd bit of greenlaning. Although saying that, i will be fitting a Servo setup for power valve, Honda CR250 carb, modding the Reed block, inlet, airbox, and rejetting, When the time comes for a rebuild ill get her fully blueprinted and casting marks etc polished out. so should be more fun then Done everything i needed now minus getting the new rear shock on, but that should be here mid morning tomo, and then MOT at 3, so fingers crossed!

the yamaha 125's do come with small carbs as standard alright, but a cr250 carb will be too big, and a too big carb will be bugger to jet and will want to be rejetted every time the weather has a tiny change.. aim for maybe a 32mm carb from an rs/rg125. I think banshee/ypvs/lc carb boots have the same bolt pattern so get an aftermarket one of those to suit what size carb you get.

this is the carb on mine; Alot of the DTs i have seen have the more rounder carb, and with this carb jets are availble to buy on ebay for a couple of pounds.

Your spot on there Terraroot, For some reason i had it in my mind that the cr carb was a 32, as that is what i want. iirc the standard DT carb is 28,which is fine for 12bhp but not much use for 25 lol will have to have a scout around for a carb and reed block i can modify to fit, or maybe just work the standard reed block with some boyeson petals.
Ben, what carb is that? had a look on the website but cant find it?

Its a MIKUNI FLATSIDE CARB from a DT125RE, I'm not sure if fitting this carb will make a huge difference without the jetting, but it is powering my bike fine through powerbands and gears upto 65/70 mph, ive also go the dep end can, will get a front can and see if the carb will need re jetting, not sure yet.
