Sadly my old Suzuki GN is coming to the end so I'm looking for a replacement 125. I've seen a 2003 Hyosung GT125 Comet (naked looking bike) for sale not too far from me. I like the look of the bike, seems a big bigger than the GN which would be a bonus! I've done some web searching on this bike and it seems a pretty descent machine, I'd like to know if anyone on here owns or has owned one? Anything specific to look out for, common faults, good/bad points in general. I've heard that the older ones (like the one that's advertised locally) suffer with poor cam chain tensioners & the rear shockers weren't up to much. Any pointers/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I had to have a google though I thought it was this one. A mini SV ;D I know nothing of them but they look pretty decent aesthetically.

they did a 650 as well, same class as the SV, but nothing shared.

The bike that's advertised is up for £800, I'm trying to gather the funds now so if I can get close to the asking price I'll go & have a look.....I'm not one of these guys who views a vehicle with no where near the asking price in my pocket (it annoys the hell out of me when I've been selling a motor so refuse to do it myself) ;D

I've had a stroke of luck recently which has added some cash to my life so rather than feck about buying another 125 I'm going to get my tests done. First job is to get my theory test booked, as soon as that is passed I'll start my training.............Hopefully I won't need many training sessions, I feel confident riding and do my obs, signals etc without thinking about it so hopefully I'll be able to chuck away the L plates soon After looking at the 125 2nd hand market I can get a bigger bike for the same/less money, time to stop buggering about and get on with it. Wish me luck.

yep thats a better plan. have you already started browsing for a new big bike? I might have done ;D ;D ;D Budget is still a tight spot as the DAS will wipe out a chunk of the budget & I think I'll be lucky to see a 6 pack for the GN the way she is. So far I've looked at; GS500 ER5's (seem cheap enough) 600 GPZ's (like these) 600 Bandit 600 Fazer (if I could pinch a bit more for the fund a Fazer might be possible). The guy that lives next door has a 600 Fazer on a 51 plate, he's talking about changing it for a 250 this year.........I'm going to enquiry what he'll be looking for on it. ;D Not interested in cruisers or super sport stuff (trying to keep insurance costs down for a while & more importantly build some experience on a bigger machine). Any other suggestions (I'm open to them!) feel free to add, or opinions on the above would be great as well.

all good bikes, GS more so then the ER, bandits drink petrol, fazers stop really well but engine's a bit gutless (not enough to worry about, stump puller compared to a gn...) if i were you i'd get the bandit, lots about so you can find a good one reasonably priced. then buy a gpz to tinker with

The reason for the GPZ appeal is down to my mate recently doing up a 1985 GPZ 600, although he said the brakes are a pig on his. I like the Bandit & they seem to be well priced. Seen a few late 90's ones for around a grand (some lower than this) so the Bandit is looking the more likely.

For what it's worth I think your doing the best thing here, if only because you'll find a lot more bike for your money once your out of learner cc territory. Rather predictable from me... I'll never stop singing the praises of the CB500 twin and there's good reason for that

That's just it, for what a descent 125 will cost (i.e not one that's completely fugged) I can pick up a good 500/600. I like the CB500 but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of them around within budget, a 1998 one came on eBay close to me which was MOT'd/taxed & in reasonable shape for £700.......I'd have snapped it up if I'd passed my test or at least got Mod 1 done, always the way. Seen a few 600 ZZR's (mid~late 90's ones) which would also be within budget, love the look of them & the insurance doesn't seem too drastic either.
The training school I'm using will be selling off one of their GS500's pretty soon, got a few scars as you'd expect from a trainer bike but it's a 55 plate for a grand. They've recently brought some Kwak ER6's for the new test rules so the GS's are being re-homed. Sorely tempted, it's a good price considering the age & the GS's seem to be rated as a first 'big bike', insurance is cheap & the MPG is good. I reckon it would be a good commuter which would be its main use and be good for me to cut my teeth with.

I have a later GS and I must say it isn't a patch on the old GS500E. The spanish build quality is not as good as the japanese.
The hyosungs are good and the engines sound (hyosung make engines for suzuki including the sv650) though I've heard a few moans about the electrics.
The one of choice for me still has to be the twin shock Cb500 Honda. Bomb proof, handles well and is nippy.

There was a 98 CB500 on eBay close to me the other week, new MOT, guy had owned it for 5 years etc & it was up for £795 BIN. If I'd passed I'd have had it, really tidy ol bike & I think they look a bit nicer than the GS.
