first off.. i apologise it took so long to get round to post it up.. and i know its not really retro.. but it looks it I won a competition and won my self a Yamaha xt125. well... kinda. (quite a few things missing) picked it up 21/3/09. and been playing with it since. have some pics as it was waiting for me to pick it up: and after I played with it a little: and the two projects: i set about hard tailing the frame.. seat: rear muddie.. picture of the whole bike at this stage.. new tank.. a bit of paint splash later.. once on the road, it was blue.. then went through an engine swap.. after installing the engine and getting about 60 miles on the clock.. decided to throw up some dirt for the camera then decided i didnt like the front end.. things were to change! strip it down.. new digi speedo to un-clutter the front.. finished front end, with moved indicators all shiny and at its first show whilst road legal.. now, obviously, there're little bits missing from this, as if i were to put every picture in here, i'd be here for a good couple of years hope you all enjoy. -Liam

taa guys . the bike doesn't sound too bad to be fair.. it sounds like an old brit bike.. which tbh, i prefer to the sound of a v-twin. unfortunately, i need more machining doing to the cam and cam bearings (knackered) so now its off the road for a couple days.. once done, it should run alot better than before, and it should sound better too, as i have a couple ideas up my sleeve about the exhaust. oh and btw, its a firebird. (trans-am's baby sister) cheers -Liam

WTF!! Bugger me! Is that a hole right through the piston? never seen that before! What engine is that? Cheeeepo pistons? Looks like the whole head and barrel is warped right out. What did you do to it? Thats impressive!

yep, right through the piston, and its a Daelim (Korean) so yep. cheepo pistons the barrel/head isnt warped. i think its just the oil that gives the impression. but oh well.
scary thing, i didnt do anything, i'd just rebuilt the top end again, as i needed to have bearings re-done, due to the bronze bush being engineered incorrectly. when re assembled, it turned over lovely, no real resistance to turn or anything and it was running well, powerful, and quiet (no major tapping or any knocking) and i rode it about 30 miles like this, took it to college, on monday, and it made crunchy noises about 5 miles out side of town (wasnt thrashing it, was only riding it at roughly 45 mph).
i dunno what happend, but i do know that the exhaust valves got taken victim. so i probably got the chain one tooth out
ah well. its life..

oil was just under the max mark when cold& bike was held up right. :/
cheers for finding the engine, its just what i want! but at the moment, there's no way in hell im gonna afford anything above about £40-50..
it sounds like i might be getting a little job within the next couple of weeks, so all the proceeds of that will go to getting a new engine, and if i get given enough, there might even be a twin going into the chop..
how is it to find parts for the little benlys?
cheers -Liam

me and my family decided it was time to stop messing around with these silly chinky engines, its time to get a decent lump.. so... this turned up on my door step today... a cb 125 tdc superdream lump. (never thought i'd be able to get one!) a previous owner had rebuilt it, not knowing what they were doing. so there's grease in the oil, there's gasket sealant on the head gasket, and 2 new spark plugs. so, on the shopping list now: -top end gasket set -piston rings (they're shot on number 2) -possibly a coil. but i might have one of them waiting for me.. should be a nice little lump when when done. taa -Liam

well, the top end of the engine has been torn down and almost on the build up again now.. so lets show you the process i went through cam cover comes off.. all looks well.. head & barrels come off to show the pistons.. if you look closely, you can see the nearest piston has its rings stuck at full compression.. for some reason, the guy who built this engine before, thought it'd be a good idea to smear sealant EVERYWHERE.. including head gasket.. again with sealant on the head. and mouldy combustion chambers.. if you look at the left piston this time, you'll see some scrape marks. so it's probably been seized.. but the bores dont look too bad... cleaning up: pistons, managed to revive the rings. no breakages or damages. doo well! head- only a little clean up for now. i need to find a valve spring compressor small enough to get the valves out, so i can do a proper job, and lap the valves in.. generator- as im using the wiring loom from the last engine, with minor modifications, just that bit easier and possibly more reliable. and the stator windings dropped straight in, all bolt holes line up and everything barrel- didn't have a hone small enough, so used fine sand paper, to get rid of corrosion & marks as much as possible. but unfortunately, there were ridges in the barrel, so now on the hunt for a small hone..also cleaned up both gasket surfaces.. thats all for today, but over the weekend, we might see the bike making room for the engine, and maybe even have it running if i really want to push my luck & get everything right... taa -Liam

Ha ha! No way dude, that's exactly the same as the benly lump, apart from the benly has a smooth rocker cover. Mine is waiting for me to bring myself to take it to peices following dropping two circlips down into the crank casing. Bad times.

hm update..
its all back together and in the bike and is running...
er.... was running.. i need help here as my mechanical knowledge runs out here! things i have to make the engine run: -compression -air -fuel -spark (with decent gap) -correct valve timing -compression.
situation in garage at the moment: -bike in the air. (so its at a more comfortable hight to work on..) -exhausts are off (to relieve any excess back pressure or whatever) -spraying easy start into inlet ports (to eliminate the carb/inlet manifold being an issue) wiring temporarily boded up (to allow me to start it..) *have had it running in this state already*
but.. it doesnt run..
im lead to believe that its either the plugs, or the coil(or both!). making a week spark that doesn't occur during compression.. but why would this happen all of a sudden?! i cant afford to get any new coils/ plugs.. so any suggestions as to what i can do / any other problems that would cause this?
i would REALLY appreciate getting this thing sorted for this weekend! i don't wanna trailer it to biker fest.. or even if i do, i'll be working on it as soon as i get the tent set up..
please guys, any help would be of use.. i've fried my brain today thinking of what i can do..
cheers in advance -Liam
