Currently, I'm about to start work rebuilding my RGV250L which I pulled out of a breakers for £200. This is conditional on DVLA sending me the V5 but I'm not starting the build till I get it. It starts and runs but there's a wee tinkling sound from the front cylinder so may be the bore plating or a powervalve. Planning on either Pepsi or Heron Suzuki paintwork. My current ride is a 1981 Z750 which is a bit of a mongrel. A sorry looking thing, it was- Given free by a mate, It was given a cheap rebuild and MOT'd. Spec is- Harris 4-1 exhaust, CMA alloys, GPZ750R1 carbs, Raask rearsets, GPZ fairing. Painted by myself, I was happy with it for a year. After swapping out the cylinder head, I repainted it- This one, a 1979 KH250B4, keeps getting put off doing. I had planned to fit the front and rear ends from the RGV250 onto this but that all changed when I got the RGV running! It'll get done sooner or later... I'm also awaiting delivery of a 1981 Yamaha RS100 from a mate. It was a field bike for many years on his dad's farm so when his dad sold up and moved, he took it to my place. It was stripped and cleaned up, V5 applied for then he used it for work for a wee while. It has sat outside for 4 years now and is in a bad way again. I'm either going to 'trailie' it or make a wee early TZ Yam racer lookalike for a bit of fun.

I've been looking at TZ fairings on Ebay for the RS. For this, being a budget racer, I'll check out road racer forums to see if I can pick up a fairing and seat 2nd hand. The RGV is a lot worse cosmetically than it looks in the pic. Still, if it wasn't a challenge, it wouldn't be worth doing ;D

I've seen one of similar condition to mine go for £300. Just found this pic of another old project of mine. A 1987 BMW R80 Monolever. Pulled out of a garden in Drumnadrochit after years of neglect. I had gone to see it with the intention of building a trike but thought it was too good to cut up. Majority of the work was cheap as the only real costs were consumables oil, filters, fork seals, a replacement Brembo caliper and a new comfort seat. Total cost for this bike was under £800. Sold it for £1000 two years later. Should've kept it though

Looks like I'll be getting an 1995 XJR400 Yamaha from my mate too. ;D Needs a new head gasket and a small repair to one of the exhaust studs but quite tidy. Looks like garage and shed space will be a bit limited soon

The RGV250 project is coming on now. Wheels powdercoated, exhausts painted, subframe removed, Honda CRF450 LED tailight, relocated the shock reservoir, forks rebuilt and painted, new wheel bearings all round, replacement front discs with the centres repainted, new pads all round. The seat unit was a £10 buy from Ebay to see if it's feasible. Parts still to source- New race seat unit R/H/S fairing panel headlight cowl Pair of silencers L/H clip on bar Exhaust gasket set Jobs to do- Strip out and clean powervalves Prep and paint bodywork Fabricate stainless hangers for silencers Due to space and cash restraints and the fact that the KH250 keeps getting put on the back burner, the poor KH will have to go along with the Z750 which will be going to my mate if he sells his 350 Enfield in time. Still, the XJR400 should lessen the blow. Ian

Looking good.....had an rgv and kr1 in my youth and loved them. A Pepsi paint job would be cool, you still thinking of that? I use these for gasket sets and such like www.wemoto.com/bikes/Suzuki/RGV_250_K_L/89-90/They're relaible and have most of basic servicable stuff for most bikes. keep us posted on your progress. Got an original riders manual for one of these somewhere if you would be interested.

ah cossackman your worse than me for collecting "projects" must be something in the aberdeenshire air. shame i don't have same kind of heated, electrified garage space you got, i got a cold unlit lockup to chuck em in, and me back garden to fettle them lol. i see your doing a RS100... am intending doing a RXS myself, well once i sort the SR 125 out and bobber it as my cheapo hack. out of curiosity... do you know any local lads that might be able to hardtail the frame for me? and weld up a battery/gubbins box and add some seat mount lugs?
