Ask the lads at Breaking Point. If anyone does the type of metalwork you need, then they'll know someone decent. I've always said- If you can work a hacksaw, drill and arc welder, you can make anything fit. Start knocking up carboard templates until you are happy with the design then transfer them to MDF. You can then cut them out of steel/ally yourself or take them to a fab shop. Re: The RS100- It belongs to the same mate that gave me the XJR400. He decided to give it to his sister to learn on. As I said before, it's a bit of a shed now so I have a feeling it'll end up at mine for a 'refurb' again. He's good at the mechanicals but cosmetics? Nah!! My garage is heated by default- the boiler is in there! :-)
I saw a tasty custom SR125 on the Bike EXIF website. A beautiful cafe racer that's proportions were near perfect. If I can help you with anything, let me know.
Cheers
Ian

Well ian how are you with timing chains and setting the timing of 4 strokes? i humbly admit im a 2 stroke person really, all my teenage bikes except a suzuki gs125 were strokers, Yamaha RD's usually. this SR has a high mileage engine, and i bought it for one reason, well a couple it was cheap, and a yrs tax/test. and i wanted something to drive maybe once a month between aberdeen and dingwall that was quicker than my wee honda cub. so looks wise i dont care what it looks like, mechanically it needs to be sound, so since these things tend to suffer top end oil starvation and its a high mile motor, i think it prudent to do timing chain n sprocket, new oil pump rotors and gear, and new sprockets and chain as well as a full service and filters. the service i can do myself, and sprockets, oil pump etc... but i know im stuffed when it comes to timing it and the timing chain.
I have contacted the guys at breaking point, they aint got any SR 125 parts in, cos i did think about just finding a lower mileage engine to work on off the bike, and drop it in, hell if it would fit and i could get off with it, and find one, id stick in a SR 250 engine (don't tell the DVLA or mr pc plod pmsl) the bike speedo surround is knackered, the speedo works, but the cover is held on with tape n glass-fibre. so i thought about finding a bates style headlight, and a small universal type speedo that could use the existing speedo cable setup.
Ok i know this might be cheeky, think you could help me regard the timing? as im skint and cant afford the rates bike shops would charge. id also like to turn her into a bobber, but cant weld, n aint got welders, only tools i have are spanners, sockets, and some pullers etc... i was gonna hit breaking point when cash allows to see what speedo and light they have laying about that will fit. and to try hunt down a bobber style solo seat, and i guess universal mudguards are on the cards. im gonna keep her in "rat" style as its just a old bike. i just want her mechanically sound and a bit lighter.

If you have a manual for the SR125, then it should be a damn sight easier than doing my Z750! I can pop round some evening to have a look if you want? PM me and we'll sort something out.
