I posted a month or two ago about buying a new (to me) bike, it was a z750, i was gonna turning it into an ELR rep but with decent wheels and brakes, but it wasn't to be, i talked my self out of it, it was just too much of a dog for the money. So yesterday, i was just browsing the local ads when i spotted this proper 90's icon: and today i bought it! ;D rash decision but lifes too short an all that.

I didn't like the 'Cocktail' colours when they came out but now, I think they look great. My old Z750 is still on sorn. I fancy doing something along the lines of a Wrenchmonkees bike.

it's very 90's eh? the fireblade era is well an truly burned into my memory, only in magazine form coz i was an impressionable teenager with no chance in hell of every having one.
i left a letter out of z750, i meant zr750, an ugly bike on the outside but can be made very pretty. and it has the pretty much the same engine as your z750..

Looks like a nice one - these were supposed to have been damn good in the day but overshadowed by the Fireblade. I've seen a few with EXUP / Thunderace motors in and I bet that would straighten things out. Also +1 for a Kwak Z project that is yet to start - I got an old Z650 for a price that was too good to ignore, it's about as far from original as you can get so the plan is to go for a Sanctuary Z1 look but on the smallest of budgets. It might happen........one day.

this is a zr750, there's a lovely frame behind the horrible side covers and foot peg plates. chuck the tank and seat for something actually retro, and the engine is quite retro enough already, but the suspension brakes and tyres are top notch (compared to an original z650). half ways there towards makeing a sanctuary rep. fzr1000 engine slots right into the yzf, some captive nuts and a trick bent cylinder head bracket and your away. hopefully it'll all stay in one piece tho, don't wanna end up with box's of parts. have an owo1

stripped the fairings and tank off it this morning, found the petrol vacuum tap isn't doing it's job, the bottom of the tank was rusted and chemical metalled up, the wires from the ignition key had melted at some point and were then badly fixed up, the headlight subframe is snapped, some of the side fairing tabs are broken, thankfully an easy out of sight fix. pics after lunch when i power wash whats left.

my shock turned up during lunch! stripped: powerwashed: yucky: awesome: nice K&N filter there too not so nice the blasted state of these airbox screws. gotta sort a steering damper, so had to pull them all out and offer them up. the two on the left look like the closest to fitting, not sure if we have the right clamp for the fork leg, not sure where anything is anymore around the place, more time needed in my own garage and not work!
