Not retro, but everyone has to start somewhere! And these are a really good place to start. Looking for as close as possible to £1000.
Also on Evilbay.
Having passed my bike test a few weeks ago and bought a bigger bike, I am selling my Honda CG 125.
It has tax and MOT till early 2012
Work I have done since buying it in February this year:
6684 miles, 25/03/2011
New DID heavy duty chain
Clutch cable service
Rebuilt rear drum brake
Checked and topped up brake fluid
New EBC brake pads
7892 miles, 13/05/02011
New headlamp bulb 35/35w
New spark plug, NGK DPR8EA9
New 10W/40 semi-synthetic oil, cleaned out gauze filter
9012 miles, 07/07/2011
New Michelin Pilot front tyre 2.75/18
Stripped and rebuilt carb
Stripped and rebuilt front brake caliper with Honda parts
What does it need?
There were no advisories on tha last MOT, but If I were to keep it I would carry out the following work:
I would say that a new rear tyre will be needed pretty soon, which you can buy for around £45, you can see in the photos how much tread is left.
One of the baffles in the exhaust is a bit rattly, it is not too bad and does not affect riding.
Replace sump plug as missing crush washer, this is not leaking but on changing the oil I noticed it was missing, and sealed the plug with mastik to stop any oil leaks.
One of the previous owners (and there have only been two before me) has scuffed the bike, scraping one of the mirror stems, and the top of the plastic binnacle, it isn't bad at all. You could replace these if being picky.
It would make an ideal learner, or economical commuter bike for someone, I have been using it to travel about 25 miles a day and it holds up well in rush hour traffic.
It can cruise at 55 in 5th gear, and max speed is realistically 65mph, although the clock shows 90mph. I am 16 stone though!
It does 100mpg in general use, so a £12 tank lasts over 250 miles.
Road tax is £15 and as a learner my insurance was around £100 a year with Bennetts.
CG125s are ultimately reliable, with regular servicing they can, and do, achieve over 100,000 miles on the original engine. This one had never let me down, always starting even when really cold, only ever had to use half choke.
