So, looks like ive bought it! I absolutely LOVE this bike. One bad pic for now as i wont be bringing it home for a few weeks yet. There is no way ill remember whats been done to this, but ill have a go. 33000 genuine miles. Engine was re-built by an engineer a few years back, i have his work sheet notes of every tolerance gap of every bearing as he rebuilt it! Hagon rear shocks New aftermarket 4 into 1 Rebuilt wheels with polished hubs, stainless spokes and flanged alloy rims (spanish apparantly). Polished engine with stainless allen bolts Electronic ignition roll on/off throttle cables Gel battery Decent filters All repainted Clocks and light cluster dropped Newly recoverd cafe seat Origional 70's drop bars Different rear end (i think the bike is an F1, it was origionaly chrome yellow) New chain and sprockets New tyres braided fuel lines. New front mud guard. Kick start removed Rear sets. Chrome guage covers He origionaly restored the bike back to bone stock so he's included every origional part taken off. Also has a matching paint origional, genuine front fairing and bracket kit, spare bars, spare lights, new clutch, huge amounts of reciets and photo's. Issues.... BOTH grips are slightly split and need replacing Clutch rattles, but apparantly they all do this? Cant wait to get riding this

So, what to do?
Might convert to single clock, might change seat to a similar shape but with a painted tail. Might loose rear mudguard and light set up. Might get another tank and try adding some knee indents. Will probably loose the left mirror and might try a less obtrusive right mirror. How practical are fold up bar mirrors? Can you realisticaly fold them up as and when you want to filter through traffic? Might also loose the indicators, or get some smaller ones.
Then again, i may leave it just as it is, but need to do something to make it mine.

Fit twin disc brakes? i can see the front is michelin (macadam?) but whats the rear? priority's first does it stop and go around corners and not try to kill you? Fantastic bike for £1000, if you really have all the standard bit that could pull in £3500

Did you ever get a bargain or what!!!!!! Well done feller, I'm glad you went the route of buying this bike, thats got some really nice mods on it. If it were me I think I'd be losing the mirrors completely, Vincent straight bars rather than the Ace bars that you have now, you'll know when you put some miles on it if those bars will suit you, I know they wouldn't me as I've broke my wrists and they don't like acute angles any more. Yes twin discs might be a valuable upgrade. All in all a lovely bike, well done sir

That really is a VERY nice CB, so PLEASE think carefully before you start hacking bits of it and replacing them with N/S aftermarket stuff that might not only look wrong but will destroy the bikes value.
IMHO a classic bike like this in the condition it's in should be kept standard at all costs - it really would be a shame to ruin such a lovely CB just for a 'Look'....
If it were mine I'd return it to standard, then if you really wanted a Cafe Racer just buy an old tatty CB and bolt all the Cafe Racer bits to this.
Also worth noting that the seat looks like a Giuliari 2-4 which were a period and desirable mod from the day, if it were a genuine one then it'll be worth well over £100 on it's own and is MUCH more suited to the bike than some cheap fibreglass hump with a bit of black foam glued to it....

No permenant mods have been done to the bike, i think although sound, it was a bit ropey when he got it so i dont feel bad about whats been done to it. I wont be doing any permenant mods either. As for starting, stopping and not killing me? Yeah, its fine. It has no test, but it passed with flying colours last time and was ridden home and put back in teh dry garage (where first pic is taken) and not ridden since, although started now and then. This is why he sold it, doesnt ride it. He finds it uncomfortable. All the bearings and brakes are new so its all good, not just looking good. I think i made the right decision here I wont ride without mirrors, i need a right one at least. Might take the rear mudguard off, we'll see. The only part that lets it down slightly is the paintwork on the frame. He suggested ride if for the summer, then strip it and blast/coat the frame. Would be pretty much show standard then i'd guess. Seat is origional yes, rear tyre i dont know, the bike isnt with me yet. They have done a hundred miles tops though. Twin discs up front sounds like a nice idea, but im guessing that needs a new hub? What about caliper brackets? The wheels are so lovely i wouldnt want to mess with them really. Just need to pass my test, insure it, book an MOT, fit the doors on the new garage, buy a jacket, boots and gloves, then i can bring it home. He gave me a helmet too

Who could resist?
One other thing, looking at the bike, calling the left cylinder number 1 (no idea if thats right, but doesnt matter).
1 and 3 headers have discoloured more than 2 and 4. Its pretty much a new exhaust, but i guess this suggests 1 and 3 are running hotter. Leaner maybe? Just wondered what people thought. The carbs are balanced pretty well, but could no doubt be a touch better.

Given you've not yet passed your test and as such will be quite inexperianced on the road when you do, then that would be another good reason to return the bike to standard (at least for now) as those 'dropped' bars may look very nice but they will make the bike MUCH harder to maneuver at low speeds than the OE raised items, you really don't want to be picking up such a lovely bike of the tarmac. I owned a 76 F1 in the late 70's and it didn't look as clean as yours even then!.. ;D

We'll see how it feels on the way home, i'll have the origional bars to swap back to if i feel the need.
