I'm looking at fitting a bigger carb to my Tomos and it seems a popular choice is to fit Mikuni carbs to them. I've found a suitable sized Mikuni on ebay, but it's come off a 4 stroke Pit-bike and my Tomos is a 2 stroke.
Anyone know if there's any difference between the carbs and if it will work?

Should have no problems, unless 1 your tomos has an autolube injection system that injects via the carb, thats not on a four stroke. 2 could be a completely different mikuni, just a bit of a pain to fit but it should still work. 3 CV carbs are not usually found on two-stroke, not real sure of the reason why, so as long as the new carb is a slide carb, your gold.

Thats good then. I need to make a new inlet manifold anyway, so no problem with fitting and my Tomos is pre-mix and it's a slide carb And the damn americans on the Tomos forum said it wouldn't work....

I may be missing something here, what are the carb sizes? you realise the jetting needs messing with as well right?

19mm will be no problem for a 50cc 2-stroke

After some more reading about this, apprantly the difference between carbs is the 4 stroke carb has a needle jet fitted to it, which has holes drilled in the sides, whereas a 2 stroke one doesn't. Some people say it will work but it won't run properly on a 2 stroke because of this? Heres a pic of the difference

My 84` dt80mx carb has a drilled needle jet... My only guess is 2-strokes with pre-mix going through the carb wont have a drilled needle jet, as the fuel going through it is thicker and will probably clog up the wee holes. My dt only has petrol going through it, so has wee holes. So as your tomos has oily petrol going through it, I doubt it will work through a 4-stroke carb. Can someone confurm this?

Just been having another read about this, and the reason for the holes drilled in the jet is to improve fuel atomisation for 4-strokes and they are also useful on 2strokes with reed/disc valves?

can i see the ebay link? they look like an emulsion tube, thats part of the jetting that may need changing.
