The standard size plate on my bike really does look like a surfboard, I've found a place that does custom (show) plates in 8x6 inch or 7x5 inch sizes.. compared to standard square bike plate size of 9x7 inches..
has anyone got experience of running with a 7x5 plate? just wondering if it's likely to attract too attention?

Hello, currently at the moment my bike has an undersized numberplate which i think is 8 x 3. Although it is illegal, i have been pulled over and the police have turned a blind eye to it. Its sort of hit and miss really, if you want to risk it feel free. Also remember, ignorance is no defence with the law, i.e you can't claim you didn't know the laws about number plates. Hope this helps

i ran all last year with a plate of 6x3 dimensions (yes i know) i only ever got told off once in 12 months, and that was by a copper who was just chatting, admirring the bike, told me that if traffic saw it then i would proably get done, but he didnt really care. I never rode to north wales with it on, as they are generally just a bugger about anything not standard, but other than that never had any problems, dont know whether it was because there is strength in numbers, or when ever i was on my own they weren't traffic police.
Same with anything, i've had a pre 74 reg (black silver pressed metal) on my 82 merc now for over 12 months, on got told off once (by a traffic cop) who actually knew what he was talking about. And the car is parked outside the chippy that the local cop shop use every and i mean every nite!!
