Hi Dan, welcome to RR. How are you picking the bike up, van/trailer/riding back? Sounds like an epic roadtrip.

well there was a vague plan to van it back in my mate's vito... but it's gone and died on us.
so we'll either by hiring a van if we can find one cheap enough. or riding down on same mate's vfr750 and riding it back, with me on my cbt going the "long way round". one way to test the patience of your mates!

nope! it's booked for the 17th at 10am. can't wait!
mate donated a jacket and some gloves today that were just piled up among "spare stuff" in his garage, so that's a start. just need some boots and a helmet now to get me going.
boots are confusing the hell out of me though, do they need to be so OTT ?? or are them little paddock boots adequate? not like i'm going to be breaking any speed records

I asked myself the same question when I did my CBT 'do I need proper bike boots?' I asked a mate who had been iding for some time & he said 'when you need them & don't have them you'll regret not having them'. The thing is having a off at 30 can do a fair bit of damage, I read somewhere that usually ankles & feet take the most impact in a crash as well. I'll always gear up before going out on the bike, even if it's just to the local shop

oh i mean proper bike boots, but some seem to cover just the ankle, and some go all the way up to the knee, and some in between. most seem geared to m-x or sports bikes.... what do most people with older retro bikes wear?

what do most people with older retro bikes wear? Seen quite a few wearing Army surplus boots, usually mid-calf height, waterproof, hard wearing & usually cheap.
