Booked my theory test which is on the 12th June & have got an assessment booked with my local bike training school this Saturday to gauge how much training will be needed to bring me up to test standards......Bit nervous but very happy that it's finally starting to happen......Wish me luck.

Cheers gent, Saturday will just be me getting on something considerably bigger than the GN and doing some manouvres/riding so they can advise how much training I'll need.........Which I'm hoping isn't too much as my funds are for both training/test & new bike purchase so I don't want passing the test to eat into the bike fund too much as the GN is probably worth a bag of chips so won't contribute much when sold.

Just got back from the training centre, all went very well. He was more than happy with my control, manouvres, observation. As soon as my theory is passed he said we'd do 2 lessons back to back for Mod 1 training, then take & pass Mod 1 (he reckons I won't have any trouble with it) then another 2 lessons back to back of road riding for Mod 2. He commented that it's rare for someone riding on a CBT for a year to still be doing all the observation and positioning so that's saved a lesson or two as he didn't see any 'bad habits' that need sorting. Very pleased, was riding an 08 plate GS500. Felt so much easier to ride and didn't have any trouble with it being heavier/heavier clutch.....The only downer was riding the 125 home, need to get that changed! ;D

not that strange, four strokes are only good for boring motorway work and commutes. Damn you emissions rules!!

Just booked my first 2 Mod 1 training lessons, first is Friday 6th with the second lesson on Sunday 8th. I did an assessment session a few weeks back & the instructor felt after 2 lessons I'd be ready for my Mod 1 test so hopefully he'll be right. Really excited & looking forward to getting started, feeling happy about it & ready which I guess is the main thing. Hopefully I can get Mod 1 out of the way and move forward to Mod 2 quickly.

Well first lesson done & dusted, started on a GS500 and then was asked to use a 12 plate ER6 as one of the other students was having some trouble with the weight. Alot of difference compared with the GS, heavier for sure & alot more 'responsive' the clutch seemed to be in or out so it took a few goes to get the 'bite'. All manouvres practiced, instructor was happy so it's test time this Sunday. Looking forward to it, just hope I can keep the ER6 under control as it's a world away from what I'm used to.........Riding the GN home was a painful experience, felt like I could have walked faster compared with the 600. Also viewing a '97 GS500 tomorrow evening that's local, bike looks reasonable in the photo's so hopefully it'll be sound as I found the GS a nice bike to ride, not a rude as the 600 so I reckon it'll be a good step up bike. I'll report back soon..........Hopefully with good news.

Sadly it isn't good news, last of 6 riders to be tested (which gave time for some nerves to creep in). Did everything very well up to the swerve avoidence, clipped one of the cones with my left boot & knocked it over. Absolutely gutted, examiner gave me a debrief & said upto that point everything was 'textbook stuff' & he would 'see me next weekend'. So I'll find out tomorrow if I can get a test next Sunday, if so I'll have another crack at it. Really disappointed as I didn't hit any cones during the training session, I know if I'd been asked to do it again I would have done it so just hoping I can get a retest very soon. On the bike front, viewed the GS500. Seems to be a really tidy example but the guy wants to let the auction run it's course (you can guess where it's advertised ) Only concern I've got is that it was last taxed in 2007, MOT'd in Jan this year and done 50 miles since it's MOT. So it'll need a service for sure as the seller has no receipts for a recent service, everyhting works, no grazing on the casings, tank is dent/scuff free, seat is in good nick, tyres are good, exhaust header & system is good. Has a few little scabs on the frame but nowhere near as bad as the GN. Got it on my watch list so hoping I can win it, ends this Friday (13th.......Not sure if that's an Omen or not )
