I think my mate niki's offer of a free lift to ulaanbaatar has warped my mind. Anyone want to buy a nicely run in izh planeta 5? one owner from new, serviced (very) regularly.

I love the period shots too, I do have a gripe with this modding of bikes that no one bought because they were rubbish back then though, peeps find these bikes cheap and then 'mod' them and other sycophantic types tell them its the best thing since sliced bread. I use the word 'mod' loosely as some of them just look like its the dross lying around in the garage thats bolted on and matt/silk black painted. I love a bike thats been engineered, not something cobbled together which to be honest looks like half of them. This just doesn't apply to 'Iron and Air' which I happen to like but lots of 'Retro' sites including this one, I understand beauty is in the eye of the beholder but in a realistic world I want my shout too and I think some bikes should be consigned to the scrappy after being modded. Ok deep breath, rant over I fully expect to be flamed over this

Ok deep breath, rant over I fully expect to be flamed over this I'm not going to 'flame' you over it, who am I to tell you or anyone else what's what. I can see your point though, I also appreciate something that well screwed together & it's obvious that the build was 'thought out' if that makes any sense (?) On the flip side 'modding' (that word again) something that wasn't a great bike/car to start with is the only option for some, sure to mod a bike/car that was great in it's day is great to see but those bikes (or cars) aren't accessable in terms of budget & availability. I see alot of cars on the other RR and remember driving them through the local car auction I worked at & thinking 'what a POS' but some good looking vehicles have been made from such cars. I certainly couldn't afford the bike I'd love to own, hence I'm bolting straight bars onto my GN ;D Although I don't plug that as something 'modded', I just prefer the ride position now. I remember stuff like Puch's and the like being spat on but alot of them are modded and usually look/ride better because of it. I wouldn't choose to own a modded Puch but can appreciate the look that's acheived with some of them and the effort some people put into them. I agree the whole 'matt/silk' black thing has been done to death & you're right alot are thrown together from whatever is lying around......Mind you I can't talk, most of the old VW's I've owned pretty much fit that description. ;D

Good points well made feller. I just can't get enthusiastic over turds sprinkled with glitter Thing is mate your not crowing to the internet world about your 'modded' GN, thats a good thing Unfortunately there seems to be peeps out there who think that would constitute a round of applause and lots of self slaps on the back.

Now I've mentioned it on the interweb so maybe there was some subconcious plugging going on. ;D "turds sprinkled with glitter" ~ This line alone has made the thread worthwhile. ;D ;D ;D

are you saying that cheap bikes that weren't great in there day are still rubbish? youth these days, no engineering talent - agree sycophants - agree it's the poor bikes fault? - disagree
