Not sure where to put this as it's not exactly a 'techy' question.
I'm playing around with the idea of modifying the GN next year after I've done my test (test has to come first otherwise I'll never have the money if I start a build beforehand :. After alot of searching around on the interweb over the weekend I do like the 'look' of a bobber & I think the GN could be a reasonable choice of bike to do it on. I've had a good look at the GN over the weekend & concluded the back end will need shaving down a bit to accomodate a single seat, larger rear fender & so on. My question is what legal involvement is there in cutting the frame? Will the bike need a bike's version of an SVA as it's been altered? I'm guessing it would have to be nominated on my insurance as well.
Terraroot suggested that the engine from a DR200 would suit the GN so if I was to good to this depth it would be worth sourcing & rebuilding a slightly larger engine for it.
The reason I'm thinking along these lines instead of just getting a bigger bike after my test is because I'd like to have a go at building a bobber, I already have the GN so there's no initial outlay in buying a bike/doner. It's main use is for commuting, which is about 14 miles each day so I don't realistically need a big machine to eat up the mileage in that respect & it will get the occassional 'ride out' at weekends.
There was a guy on Retro Rides that build a CD200 into a bobber, that's the sort of thing I'd be going for. I'm not after massive amounts of power at this point, I'd just like to build something that I like the look of (& I quite like the GN, probably because it's my first bike ;D). I'd just like to know if there's any legal aspects that have to be considered.
Cheers.
