I decided last week that I could neglect the chain & sprocket on the GN any longer, the chain was adjusted as much as could be & was looking a little 'saggy'. Ordered a new heavy duty set from Wemoto which arrived last Monday, so it was due to be fitted at the weekend as work was busy last week. Last Monday morning the throttle cable snapped which meant pushing the bike back home just over a mile....Not a good start to the week New cable was ordered from Wemoto which arrived the next day and was fitted that evening so I was back on the road again.
Weekend come's around so it was time to change the chain & sprockets, everything seemed to be going well. the old sprockets came off easily enough, the new ones matched in terms of size & teeth...The front sprocket that came off had 4 teeth missing and a couple that were pretty much gone as well. Fitted the chain & it seemed too long, back the rear wheel as far as it would go (leaving no room for future adjustment & it resembled a hammock more than a chain
With no alternative I had to put the old chain back on so I could use the bike for work (this was last Sunday afternoon), called Wemoto & gave them the part number of the chain & they said everything was correct "124 link chain, that's right for the GN/GS125, we've supplied dozens of these without any callbacks" I went outside & counted the links on the old chain & it had 116. Called Wemoto back and told them, they didn't have any so would have to order one in. It arrived on Wednesday & was fitted last night, fits great and everything seems well.............Although I did forget to re-adjust the rear brake which made for an interesting ride to work. ;D anyway, arrived safely, adjusted the rear brake so I now have one, checked the lights whilst I was waiting to start work & the bloody brake light has stopped working......Probably just a bulb, but hopefully it won't need anything else after this. ;D
The gear change is so much smoother now, my mate just said I had crap clutch control but it's lovely and smooth now.
Worth mentioning how good Wemoto have been as well, the throttle cable & replacement chain both came through quickly so I wasn't off the road for long. I did some searching on the net & there does seem to be people that supply 124 & 116 link chains for the GN, don't why this is but Wemoto got the part swapped without any hassle. Can't recommend them enough.
