I've heard differing opinions about trikes, some bikers like 'em & some detest 'em. A friend of mine has just brought a Triumph Thunderbird based trike & imo it's a cracking machine, looks the part and is nicely built. I know there's some god awful looking one's out there but I do admire the one's that have been well thought out and more importanly, well built. Thought this thread might be a bit 'lightweight' on it's own so have some photo's & feel free to ad comments/opinions/photos; Yamaha Virago based (Apologies for this one) Harley V Rod Ratter VW based & lastly................... ;D

I love trikes the really important thing to remember is to have the weight as far as possible between the double wheels, vw trikes win in this respect they can really be thrown around. apart from catastrophic power on under steer. Reverse(or tadpole) trikes with wide wheels like bad genetics above, well, are bad since no matter how hard you try (and i can see they tried, mono suspension up front that eliminates lean) the rear will go off camber just when your hard on it. Gotta think more like a car engineer with these thing. these are all racers but there good to see what to aim for note the camber? all you gotta do to get more rubber down is increase the rake/castor which will increase the camber as you turn the bars. www.zipp.co.uk/gallery/Loton-Park-2010-07-11/99914+3991.jpg.htmlrandom side car. www.zipp.co.uk/gallery/Loton-Park-2010-07-11/99929+3994.jpg.htmlthis reverse trike is more awesome cuz it's FWD, which solves the weight problems and the traction problems all in one shot. frsmotorsport.com/think i've gone a bit OT there LOL

Admittedly trikes are growing on me, I was talking to one of our drivers at work today (she rides a Ducati Monster). She said that they've got the disadvantages of a car (not being able to filter) & a bike (exposed to the weather), taking these points into account I still like them. ;D Nice photo's Terra.

you know there are kits out there? both those viragos look like kits, if i remember right there not too expensive for the amount of metal you get, think there might have been a differential involved too. Gotta hit it with the stick afterwards, 's the law!

Hmmmmm, I'm not 100% sure but can you ride a trike on a full car license? I've done some searching & everything points to you being able to ride a trike with a full car license, seems odd as bike engined one's are more bike than car (?)

this i know, coz in Ireland is bloody vague and really really annoying, if your trike is over 450kg its a car and you need a car license sub 450kg bike license, lovely and simple. may need to get that checked it was a while back when i looked.
over here you can make and ride what ever you like, anything at all is grand, in fact there is no legal definition of a trike here on the law books. but to insure it you must suck off a leprechaun.
