So - I kinda over filled my bike - I don't know how I did it - it's such a school boy error. I guess a commbination of the bike not being fully level (no centre stand), filling when cold and the rubber O ring getting left behind on the filling hole which may of made the dipstick/plug not sit fully in the hole? Either way, I've pored about a pint out of it and now it's about right. Anyway - the bike is my CBR 400 RR nc23, and it's a minter - apart from this. Now then my retro friends - riddle me this.. would over filling do this - last night I was at about a ton and started loosing power - pulled over in the layby and it just stooled out. On trying to start it again it was turning over really slowly - and you could hear the starter solenoid ticking away at the end of turning over (turns over slow to a stop). The lights are bright (shine white) , all dash lights are bright, indicators flashing quick and as they should. Is it in your humble opinions, an ECU/electrical problem, or have I partially ceased it? This moring it started up no problems and was running very smoothly and revving freely. I rode off and got to the other side of town, stopped at the lights and it stooled again - same symptoms. I'm guttted. What do do you think?

Not sure if this is the cause but it sounds very similar to a fault on a mate's bike, he chased alsorts of options and eventually it turned out that the fuel tap was duff and was flooding the carbs. Again, I'm not suggesting this is the fault (still feeling my way around bikes as it is) but the symptoms sound very similar.

just to get this straight, you took out the extra pint of oil after all this? first i don't think extra oil would stall or seize the engine, extra oil could over flow and cause lots of smoke as the oil goes into the airbox (via the breather) and back out the engine, or it might cause a hydraulic lock and bend something, bu that would take a lot of oil.
maybe you have a dodgy starter and fuel tap vacuum problems?
would extra oil having gone through the airbox, block up the air filter then block up the vacuum pipe/port? worth investigation.

There is issues with Cbr's with intermittent neutral and clutch switches(diode) that cut ignition when bike warms up.....also had some wierd s**t happen with sidestand switches in past.
