Well, I've been staying away from here in a state of depression after my GP125 'project' fell through, then earlier this week my brother-in-law gave me his RXS100, fo' free ;D on the condition that I get it road-worthy with his help. It's had major power problems since he bought it - it'll fire up and idle fine, but needs beans just to let the clutch out. Then point it at the shallowest slope & it just doesn't want to know. Chucks out a lot of white smoke as well. Today, we pulled nearly everything off to check, short of stripping the whole block & gearbox. Replaced a couple of split/perished hoses, took the carb apart, removed the cyl head - and nothing to see, at all. Actually, the gasket inside the carb does need replacing, and there's a tiny leak from where the inlet joins the engine, but apparently that's only just happened so wouldn't account for an ongoing problem. There's a good strong spark, so the electrics should be OK, and we tried every combination of carb adjustment, to no avail. Any ideas people? It's a '90 if that's any help.

it's amazing how something like an rxs will still run no matter what the abuse, whip the top end off for an inspection, only cost you a base gasket and you could make one out of a cornflake box if you stuck/tight (like me! ;D ) if your not willing to do that for what ever reason just whip the exhaust or inlet off and have a look up inside, make sure there is still rings in it and no deep gouges on the piston. try checking the oil pump cable, the throttle cable it's self will appear fine and lovely and light but the oil pump cable can seize and make the pump run flat out all the time.

It sounds to me like you haven't got much compression? Try getting an oversized piston and a rebore?

Cool, I shall look at the pump cable next. The other possibility was a borked CDI, not sure if that would cause those kind of problems though? @lewis - don't tempt me, it's supposed to be a budget project! I've already heard tales of 150cc rebores hitting a ton ;D

150cc?? that's for pansy's real men go to 171cc! never borked a CDI, did have some trouble with the coil cracking and getting old and temperamental in the rain.

a suggestion for your problem could be a blocked exhaust, a quick test is to pull off the silencer and fire it up, but any 2 stroke will benefit from a decoke unfortunately another option is the seal on the crank behind the primary drive allowing gearbox oil into the engine ttfn glenn
