Evening gents, I've been registered for a while now but only really been reading threads & admiring what machines people have. Today I brought a Suzuki GN125, I had been using 'twist & go' scooters about 18 months ago. Always fancied a 'real' bike but always seemed to be some reason why it didn't happen. It's got T&T, running nicely enough but has some dings & dents here & there. The price was good considering what these usually sell for so I wasn't going to be too picky with it. Big thanks to my mate paul who rode it home for me in the drab weather. The plan is to tidy her up cosmetically, there's a few bits & bobs that are broken/missing which I'll look to replace. Wasn't sure if could post this in the readers rides bit as it's not exactly a retro machine, long term plan is to use this for a year or so then do the full test and look for something older to use on the weekends etc. For now I think this'll be perfect as a learner bike. First thing I need is the rubber sleeve that goes on the gear lever as mine is missing. (Just brought one on fleabay). Anyone know anywhere that does parts for these? Cheers. Very chuffed with this, the seller had 3 of these + a 125GS & something about this one stood out for some reason. Got my CBT booked for next Saturday so hopefully I'll be able to take her for a ride next weekend. ;D

Cheers Jawa, she looks a bit better in the photo's. Quite grubby and has a few dings, all stuff I'll remedy over the summer.

Welcome to the forum.... Good first little bike....it'll stand you in good stead for your future projects. Cheers Wrighty, I pulled her out of the shed this morning an gave her a bit of a clean up. She's been a bit neglected as far as being cleaned goes but mechanically she seems to have been well kept which is the main thing.

CBT passed today, the instructor said I gave a very good ride & it wouldn't take more than a few lessons to do my full test. The GN is now insured & I've been out on her this evening, lovin' it. So much nicer than a scoot & alot more fun. ;D

Just a bit Davy ;D I hadn't realised how dull driving a car had become until today, the instructor got all the stuff we needed to do out of the way & then suggested we had a little 'poddle about the countryside'. Nice weather, open roads, it was lovely, really fun experience.
Had a nice ride out on the GN tonight, albeit a bit short. Have noticed my horn has packed up & the MOT isn't far away so will need to get that sorted, don't suppose I could get away with fitting one of those manual 'squeezy' types could I as a short term thing (?)

Well done on your CBT... ;D Nothing quite like the sense of freedom you get from biking.
Horn needs to be continuous for m.o.t i believe.

Cheers Wrighty Just read up on the requirement & you're right, the horn does need to be continual. So just been out and tapped it with a hammer and it works if the button is pressed & it's tapped. Thinking it'll be easier just to get a new horn than bash this one on the off chance it decides to work without being hit.

Cheers Wrighty, I know what you mean....I went through the local high street and literally breezed through. ;D You are right about the horn, it has to be continual. The wiring seemed ok so I gave it a few 'gentle' taps with the hammer & it now works, it's due it's MOT at the end of next month so I gave it a bit of a look over & everything electrical seems to work. Brakes are sharp, suspension seems to work as it should (no fork oil anywhere), steering is smooth, no grabbing or catching, tyres have plenty of thread on them. Fixtures & fittings are bolted/screwed down, is there anything else I should be checking before I take it for an MOT? I'd rather take a bike down without any glaring problems, also want it to be 100%. My knowledge of bikes is very limited so any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dungbug any queries you have regarding MOT let me know and can pop over to the test station we use across the road from the shop ! The GN is a strong little motor so good choice there, parts wise you should not have much problem getting spares..

Cheers chap, very helpful. ;D Yeah I've heard good stuff about these bikes, admittedly she's done a bit of leg to the tune of 40k. I'm sure in her 'youth' she'd have achieved a better top end than she does now but to be honest I don't want to cane the ol girl, just ride/get experience/enjoy and so on. ;D
