Hi.
Whats the deal with interchangability of forks?
Keeping things simple, ill stick with 125's.
I assume everythings different? Length, diameter, spring rate etc.
Can you generaly assume length and spring rate are similar between similar sized bikes?
How much does diameter change?
If you also swap yokes i guess distance between the forks also changes.
What i'd like to do is put USD forks on a '86 ns125. I assume motorcross forks (cr125) would be out of the question.
I'd need yokes too i assume.
So that leaves suzuki rgv i guess.
Is this sort of thing easy? Getting spacers machined isnt a problem.

USD forks will be alot wider in diameter than rwu, so yes you will need yolks as well. Dont forget aprillia rs125s,TZRrs or Cagiva mito. A few breakers in Norfolk area will probably have an RS frontend hanging about, quite common. Get the hole job lot with wheel, caliper and clipons. Then it will be a case of head bearings. Given Outer and internal diameter a local bearing firm will be able to help with that. Its like a disease because when you've done that you know you'll be putting a different swingarm and wider wheel in there. Good to see a NS being kept running......any pictures.

not bought it yet, weighing up my options as its pretty rough.
No fairings at all, rusty forks which dont rebound proper and to cap it off, its seized.
Could be cool though if i can get it cheap enough.
Motor worries me, im guessing it'll need a barrel and piston at least and barrels dont seem cheap.
Second hand engine maybe but it starts getting pricey.
I wanted to convert to USD's anyway so im not too fussed about the forks.
We'll see, might look for something else.
He wants 300 for it! Way too much IMO.

pretty much the only way your gonna find out is to just get the two parts and put them together, see if they fit. buying a rg125 with a dead engine is not hard, neither is buying a crashed nsr125. to answer one of your questions yeah spring rates are pretty close between similar weighted bikes, excluding the rear spring which can have tons of different lever ratios.

Oh really...
Dont happen to have wheel/brake too do you?
Where are you? How much would you want?
Will the srping rate be different due to heavier bike?

no wheel or brake as i was going to fit them to my Xtz660 Tenere and use the std wheel. cheap as chips on the bay tho as the wheel is v common part i doubt there is much difference in weight between a 'crosser and your DT i paid £150 for the lot,no oil leaks on the seals.if i can get that back i'd be happy I'm in Shrewsbury SY2 Andy
