Newbie alert, so abuse away!. ;D After near 30 years of Bike ownership I sold my last bike around 4 years ago (Kawasaki ZX12-R), however I've decided to get back onto 2 wheels again, but this time I fancy something from my 'yoof'. Now, I'd love a Kawasaki Z900 or one of the big KH strokers (H1/2 500/750), sadly however I need both kidneys so I'm looking to spend around £2-3K on something 'interesting'. Not bothered if it's 2 or 4 stroke, don't mind doing a little 'light' restoration - but basket cases are out as I simply don't have the time these days. Recommendations please.

Cheers Fella... Already been looking on fleabay and was reminded about bikes I'd completely forgotten about from the day (GT500 looked good) even bid on a very rare Suzuki RE-5 (Rotary engine) but it went for silly money. Strange to think that on 1st August 1978 I bought a brand new RD 250 DX and it cost under £700 'on the road', same bike now costs double/treble this!.

Haven't heard anything bad about them, gotta be pretty reliable with under 100bhp per litre, i say go for it.

Ours has a alloy tz tank, 375cc engine and alloy wire rims Modded lots of Bikes (and cars) in the past, but think anything like the above should be kept as standard (although the above isn't quite). That said, I'm not one those anal chin strokers that goes as far as insisting on original Japanese air in the tyres, things like electronic ignition and modern tyres are a must - I think it's all too easy to forget just how poor a set of OE 70's rubber was....... and I've still got the scars to prove it!. ;D

Well, after much consideration I've decided that anything I'd want from the 70's is frankly silly money, so decided to go for something a little newer but still with that retro 'feel'..... Just left a deposit on this 1992 750 Zephyer. It's only done 12K miles and is very clean and original (no silly go faster bits) it also comes with lots of history and old MOT's etc. Needs a little cleaning/polishing and the odd little mark touching up but overall is fantastic condition for a 18 year old bike...... just a shame it's not green as these were faster!. ;D
