I have this bike now for nearasdammit forever, it is mostly made of parts of my first bike, think i've crashed it 17 times personally and then when all my mates were stuck for transport i gave it to them and they crashed it again.
now i shan't print the whole story here, because that would make a whole book's worth of reading and I'm not even sure where all the pics have gone anyway, this is my latest rxs resurrection (and not the last either)
first up was finding it
then after some air in the tyres and kick to the caliper, it started just fine, like a dog that just keeps come back no how much you shout at it.
I dug (literally) out my old ace bars and decided to find a use for the some old race fairing that were cluttering up the place.
Strip down comence!
Tank was quite bad,
Offer up a micron that i bought a millions years ago.
doesn't fit, but i made it.
Not sure which rxs this was, saved some of the good bit off it and had to chuck the rest
Brr!
For once i was compelled to actually have a clean bike, so some painting was in order
Tail piece was found off an rd375 cafe that turned up some years ago
rgv125 pillion seat
Bit of a mock up
Found these,rd500 mainfold and 28mm carb, spine of the frame stops me from just useing that carb, had to find something else, on the far right is an old college project a gear change!
Perfect slop free gear changes. I hope.
For the chop
Wacked on the handle bars, noice
Chopped up the micron, took ages with this, no second chances.
Suzuki rg80 foot pegs converted to rear sets for the rxs
chucked the right hand one, brake lever doesn't work anyway
On closer inspection of the rear decided to chuck the whole thing for a cast wheel
Found a better 30mm carb, the stroke is a problem with the bigger carb, the oil pump tops out before the carb is fully opened, so this part has to wait a while until i get a bigger oil pump.
Shiny, dropped the kickstart after this, i like push starting anyway.
Left peg done
Pipe done
More stripped
More of the rgv seat
Had to chop a bit off the side caseing to allow the foot peg on.
Brackets for the seat
Seat bars and pegs, sat on it and made noise's all day
Playing with the tail piece
Wanted to use this gn125 front forks, proper pinch bolt on top and 32mm diameter but there were too rusty and way too long
Teasing my self
Cleaning the 30mm gs125 forks
Stipped the paint off the front wheel
the tank had at least four layers of lacquer on it..
Wasn't enough to stop holes appearing.
Had to make the head stem longer to fit the fork properly (never were on right!!)
Gs125 rear wheel has a bigger diameter axle, so i had to file a bit off.
Rxs rear sprocket filed out a bit to fit the gs carrier
Much measureing done to get the rear wheel exactly central.
Calculations. this r serious!
Wheel needed move over by 3mm and chain run 6mm in the opposite direction, had the small local engineering man do this for me.
Mean while the tank received some attention
Old chain adjuster was a bit bent so it didn't mind being bent again to clean the new carrier
Next up was playing with the fairings
Oil tank, ended up just leaving the standard one on.
Anti deaf and stupid pedestrian device AKA the fairing hanger.
Settled on this position for the fairing
Sidestand?
Chopped off the arse of the frame to make way for the tail piece.
It's becoming apparent that the front needs to come down.
Find small battery
upper fairing stays
New shocks off ebay meant for a honda dax and a tiny bit longer, they level the bike some what.
Battery up front, because it's a good spot.
Chop!
Zip ties.
Stand back
think is was an aprilla tail light.
Sava mc7 and a pod filter, mmm sticky
Patched up all the holes in the tank with epoxy glue and painted the under side with hammerrite
Filter on, tank leaks again.
Decided on the paint scheme went out and bought the paint, applied it and then found out it would take seven days to cure
Primer
More wiring and touch up the frame paint
Didn't do the rear wheel, pita paint.
It started after all that, not that i was expecting any surprises
after the test spin it was obvious the gear change was impossible so this was hacked together
Teething troubles, oil pump cable was a bit siezed, but the other cables were fine, so i only noticed when i though the smoke was a bit thick
Interior lamp from a caravan does the job as headlight, more for appearance's then actual use,no such thing as daytime mot in Ireland, 6volt light are crap from the get go anyway.
Weather was bloody hot by the time i was done
Whew, anyway it needs more work to finish, the forks need shortening drastically, right now they have about a inch of travel before the bump stops kick in, there's no rear brake (not really a bother) and it's dead slow, the long term plan has all ways been to drop a dt175 conrod and top end on to the engine which with out mods will make 17 bhp and gobs of torque. the main problem is none of my mates have anything similar any more so it's a bit silly bringing it out for spins, crap bike are more fun around other crap bike.
