I've been searching for a little project in recent months, last week I was close to buying a modern ped as it was cheap only to be messed about by the seller who couldn't decide whether he wanted to sell or not so , missed out on an RD250 (gutted) so had a bid on eBay on a CD185 which was local but i need of a fair bit of TLC. Whilst waiting for the auction to finish I was chatting to a mate who offered me a bike he had, adamant that he wanted nothing for it I picked it up last night; The front fairing has been lost along the way as have the side panels that run alongside the seat, there's more parts to go with it which I'll be picking up next week including a new chain & sprocket set, carbs, chain guard, new exhaust and a couple of other boxes of parts that go with it. The swingarm/rear wheel/rear brakes are there (resting behind the bike). Story goes that it was pinched a few years back, Plod recovered it at someone's house where it had been partially stripped so the swingarm spindle wasn't 'recovered' with the rest of the bike so I need to get a replacement. Plan is to see if the engine still fires up, if it does I'll drop the engine and strip the frame & swingarm back with a view to getting it powder coated. Not sure at this stage whether to build it back as it was or do something different with it, 2nd hand fairings seem hard to get so could well be pricey to go that route. I'm in no rush with her, ultimately I wanted something to take apart and rebuild and learn from......As this was free I couldn't say no.

Free ones are the best. Good luck. Eh...what is it? It's a Honda Transalp, 1996. I should be picking the rest of it up this week

I see loads of potential in that Transalp! Rear wheel is a 17" so maybe get the front wheel respoked with a 17" rim so retaining the standard brake set up, lift the forks up through the yokes a bit to bring the front end down a bit, High level twin pipes down one side, chunky tyres, minimal mudguards and a slick paintjob. Sorta like a street tracker on steroids. Maybe along these lines. I know it's a parallel twin but I love the look of these! Lovely torquey V-twin with attitude!
