Less most definitely is more In days gone I've owned and ridden many a 'better' bike than this, some of which I still own today. The thing is none of them do 125mpg and that is what I need right now. Sure in theory my last road bike should do better on fuel than my pez Transit or the Cortina though that throttle is only there to be twisted and as such I find the CB500 does the same sort of mpg as the 4 wheelers The CB has become a race bike these days, more here>>> retrobikes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=302 and the TDR250 is still buried in the lock up. That has left me with no road bike which will never ever ever do. Behold the new whip in all it's ebay pic glory. The best I could find was sourced within the merge budget which yielded the above boat anchor spec CG which had been off the road for the last 6 years and was sold as a non runner. Most parts look original be that for better or worse and the plate shows it was bought from the bike shop 2 miles down the road from my flat despite me picking it up 135 miles north of here on a return run from Mablethorpe. A fuel filter was purchased in anticipation of rust in the tank as everywhere else was pretty rusty. Carb cleaned, oil change and the freshly treated tank (shock around with a bit of fuel and a load of washers) fitted and it lives. The broken throttle was swapped for a pitbike one lying around in the workshop and the steed was dully insured for the 5 mile ride home which it made with only a little holding back at the top end.

On the road again, it's good to be back on the road again ;D Yesterday I got fully legal Needed a battery and flasher unit as both were missing along with some time spent with epoxy and gaffer tape fixing the indicator which feel off on the trailer ride home Replaced the side light bulb and a mot was in the bag ;D £15 splashed out on a years tax, was feeling flush so declined the offer of 6 months. More pics from a little ride out this morning, it's responding well to the Italian tune up method. Front wheel has had wire brush and hammerite treatment and I'll do the same to the back eventually... Family aside this pic contains all I really need in my life. Happy days.

just goes to show you don't need a fast superbike to have a bit of fun
what is it like to ride and is it getting the full resto treatment

Indeed. It can only be described as dog slow though plenty fast enough in London traffic. Saying that I've pulled out to overtake a few times and just found myself sitting alongside the car I'm trying to pass. It's just a case of readjusting and timing the maneuvers more. Same goes for junctions and roundabouts, you don't want to loose too much speed so tend to ride smoother and corner fast. Center stand hangs low and will need removing if I want to get my knee down For now it's fun to scrape it along the tarmac and it seems to have plenty of give whilst sparking up on the road. No plans for a resto just keep it a gogo and repair/patch up as need be. Also Id like to be able to wheelie it like this dude v v v

Done a few hundred miles on this now and have made a few adjustments on the way. The plug looked spot on though messing with the choke on the move let me know it was running too lean so I've raised the needle up a peg and we now hit the giddy heights of 60mph (down hill with trailing wind ;D) The head light has gone yella, just 'cause I like it and also it helps with the regular I didn't see you situation (mostly). The drum brakes have been called upon twice now in an emergency situation and as I'm not dead I'm happy. The front one even had the back wheel in the air once No getting away from the fact that the bike is damned slow, especially 2 up and loaded with riding gear. The long climb up from Thamesmead was frankly shameful and if I was a younger man who gave 2 hoots of what others think I may have been embarrassed. As it was we were too busy laughing. Had to pick up a trailer board on the way which added 2 the silliness. Might put these here gaiters on to hide the weepy seals from those pesky traffic coppers. Oh it's been reversed into twice now though only once knocked over by some tit in brick lane. The front ends maybe a tad twisted though nothing a swift boot wouldn't sort out. CG125 = GR8 for not getting bummed on the forecourt. ;D

liking the progress so far so some guy backed in to it wouldnt have been faster to push it up the hill ;D only kidding mate cant you make it quicker a good service perhaps ?? To think a whole family take there pig to market on one of these in Asia is beyond me. Maybe it's just not very hilly round those parts Nothing left to service I'm afraid and there's no way I'm pulling the motor apart for the hell of it. I've heard stories of these doing 80 and one fanciful chap saying his did 105 in standard fettle 65 seems the norm so this ain't far off TBH. Any suggestion on how to get moar speed without using more fuel or spending money gladly welcomed

Whoa 70 MPH Had it on a nice big downhill stretch of the M25 last night, one had off the bar and tucked for better aerodynamics. 2 up the other day with a lighter pillion weren't bad too. Back wheel now blacked with the hammerite brush too.

Little update for ya. Went better after raising the needle though needed a up jet really. Found a stray card and relived it of it's 102.5 to replace the 90 that I was running and it's made a vast improvement, i can haz wheelie ;D Swapped the rusty rear shocks for a better looking and slightly longer (though just as crap at suspending : set and found a better rear tyre in a tyre wall at the local mx track as the rear was an orginal ditchfinder and was frankly shocking giving a proper nervous feel when you crank it over. Modded a mirror to fit under the bar so I can spy plod whilst still fitting through the traffic gaps to evade them Recent piccy My fav bit is still the pink tank

lovin this thread.......thumbs up. ;D Try riding with a lycra suit on or a superman cape sure way to increase speed...but we want photo's. Also its a well known fact that chrome increases power by at least 5 bph.

Yeah I heard that about the chrome too. I read someone chrome plated a complete bike and it gave it an extra 20 bhp! Something to do with the sun reflecting off the bike into your eyes, thus reading the dyno test wrong!

Thanks for the comments, it makes the thread worthwhile All plodding along nicely with the CG whilst saving cash for other wheels related doings. The only thing that's bugging me is the comedy rear shockers. I replaced the rusty ones with a newer shiny (chrome ) set and immediately noticed a bit more mid corner 'bob'. Was fairly amusing at first so aesthetics and added clearance (slightly longer shockers) won through. Having ridden in the damp monsoons of late I have come to the conclusion they are chuffing dangerous so am on a mission to find were I put the rusty ones. Picked up some miracle rust treatment shizzle in the pound shop the other day so will attack it with that in due course. It's kind of like a restoration in a way... Just with added gaffer tape and zip ties ;D
