Nice idea to hide the leccy stuff away, the seat is a nice piece of work as well.

Still thinking on headlights after another week. In the meantime I have set up the controls on the bars, worked out how to lock the rear suspension to keep the bike from dragging it's arse around given how low the motor is, without having to actually weld or modify the suspension, and completed moving the controls back to just behind the motor for ease or access. Next week I aim to have all the fabrication side of things done so I can start stripping and prepping for paint.

Starting to ponder colour schemes and this has really caught my eye: Also enjoying this I love the brown/black/dark grey but fear it may be a tad too dark/subtle on such a small bike This is probably a little loud: Or is simplicity king on black? Very open to suggestions, especially if they come with example pics!

Ok, I need some opinions: I love this hubcap as a racing number plate, but just can't decide if it is too big. Any suggestions on changes greatly appreciated!

Bit the bullet and cut it down this morning. Not 100% sold on it but sits much better.

Lots of progress this weekend. Wheels are now completely painted, although I'm still looking for a 2.75 19 tyre for the front. Work has started in earnest on prepping the fueltank, chainguard and seat. I also started on the motor. The guy I bought it off said as I was leaving 'by the way, it has a small oil leak, I took the cover off the clutch side and it was a bit damp in there where it is meant to be dry, so it is just a seal.' I took his word for it at the time and after a week of the motor sitting I have noticed quite a large puddle under it! Not knowing anything about Yamaha XT250s I thought I would pull the clutch side cover off to see if I could spot the failed seal. Sure enough there was a stack of oil in there, at least half the engine's capacity. More interesting though I noticed as I removed the case, the side casing had the oil level built in to it, which opens into the main cavity, so it is meant to have oil in that side! I proceeded to remove the badly stripped and overtightened sump plug and discovered it had no o-ring in it! So fingers crossed the leak was actually from the sump plug not sealing. I have added some gasket sealant to the gasket on the side I removed, fitted the equally stripped plug from the cactus motor which does have an o-ring and reassembled. Will put oil in it tonight and see what happens!

Fingers crossed that the oil leak is from the lack of O ring.....

There was a damp spot beneath it a day later, but after giving the motor a good wipe over again (in case of spilling when I filled it up)there hasn't been any oil under it since, nice and dry! Things are starting to get pretty exciting on the Bantam. Exhaust is painted and wrapped, not bad for my first attempt (I hate fibreglass!) Tank is in undercoat nearing ready for colour and frame will be in colour by the end of tomorrow

After days of hand sewing I am only 2 seams from having the seat cover complete! Can't wait to fit it (hopefully tonight) New front tyre arrived yesterday so I got to put the front wheel on for the first time complete. tolerance is tight, but I like it!

Got all excited this evening. Rigged up the wiring, jerry rigged the XT's fuel tank, and after a few kicks she runs! First time I've had the 250 running in the BSA frame, was fantastic! Weeks of sewing later and the seat is upholstered too! just need to work out the underside.

No ride yet, I'm still waiting on one tiny part - I need a lock nut for the fuel tap I bought, being early Bantam the tap is 3/8 BSP but the tap I got came without a nut to lock it up fuel-tight, so I am waiting on delivery of a suitable nut. In the meantime I have had it running off the XT tank and it sounds pretty impressive with the complete lack of muffler. Fires up quite easy too
