Hey Guys & Gals,
Thought i may just throw a quick thread up about a small project I am doing along side the trike. I was looking for a cheap 50cc to go on the back of the motorhome so that we could park outside places and ride in rather than trying to squeeze in with the big MF. I trawled the usual places for ages and all i could find were chinese scooters which didnt appeal. Then i stumbled across a 50cc Motorhispania RX which was in need of a load of TLC. A deal was struck with the owner and they delivered it to my garage. They had bought it with the intention of doing it up but felt it was maybe a little beyond what they were prepared to do. As usual for me ( and much to the dismay of the wife ) I could see its potential
This is a pic from the ad which makes it look better than it was
So this is how i got it.
A big jigsaw that the previous owner had created when stripping it down. Handily however they had documented everything they had done which made piecing it back together a simple task.
Once i knew what i had, what was missing and what was broken I was able to make up a list of parts to search eBay for. While waiting for that I went over the engine and electrics and was suprised how good condition they were in. After a few checks and replacing broken fuel lines she fired up! ;D
Most of the body panels were damaged in some way or other but i was able to replace the tail sections, front mudguard and tank cover for under £30 so cheaper than trying to repair them. I did look into trying to find a new front screen section but they are rare to find in one piece and expensive new so that made my mind up. Streetfighter style it is! With this in mind I set about altering the front side panels ( which were split at the top anyway ) to create a sort of belly pan. Im pretty happy with the way they have come out so far. Just need to add a brace bar between them and fabricate some covers for the top edges.
This is where im currently at. Have a few bits lined up ready to purchase ( headlight, rear indicators, mirrors, new chain and sprocket, new exhaust ) but hoping to keep the budget to under £500 including buying it which should be easy enough.
This is the planned exhaust which will sit lower and nearer the fairing
I know its only a 50 but its still better than a chinese scooter! ( unless were talking classics but they are WAY out of budget )
Any comments welcome and i have already added a page to my site for it ;-)
