Anyone know of any? Need to get the wiring sorted on the MZ and its doing my head in! Thinking i may just bite the bullet and get someone to come and sort it for me. Should be really simple as i have no lighting etc so its just to get the bike to run and charge the battery. Have all the original parts and even the german wiring diagrams but do you think i can get a spark!

1 wire comes from the points to one side of the coil, a live feed from the battery to the other side of the coil(earth the battery) flick the points open and the plug sparks, its that simple or is when youve had a go at it a few times and learnt, have a go fella youll sort it its easy its just moving power about

Hey Jawa, Well following on from your encouragement and more advice from Nick (veedub1955 on britchopper who has the patience of a saint! ) i decided to have a go at the wiring in my lunch hour. working from home has its advantages  So i started off by clearing everything down on the bike so it looked like this Bunch of 4 wires come from the generator/points etc and top 2 black wires are from the coil Then using a combination of this diagram and the german one in the original manual i started to piece it together using the original ignition switch. So we got to this stage I then checked all my connections and was pretty happy with them so insulated and tidied them up. (wires going over to the left go to the switch) I have checked that the engine is earthed ( it is ), I have power all the way to the coil ( i do but different reading either side 6.03v & 2.7v ish ), I check the lead to the plug and seem to have power there but still no spark? Now with my very basic knowledge does this mean that the points are not telling the spark plug to fire? Is there a way i can check this with my multimeter? Im guessing in here somewhere? Cheers Marc Oh and I did put a battery in there but dont have the picture to show it so its not that!

Hey mate cheers for the pm, hoping i may not have to bother you. Think i have narrowed it down to my points now! Took a long hard look at it last night and there are joins in the wires by the dynamo which got me thinking. I know i have wired everything exactly as the MZ diagram shows up the top of the bike but what if they were wrong here. Guess what. Whoever had played with the wiring before had swapped a couple of the wires around when they were chopped in here! Have now put them back where they are meant to be and its getting close! I can now get a spark if i manually open the points and slightly touch the top point. I took the points off the bike and gave them a really good clean and noticed that the top point on the plastic moving arm looks fairly worn down and they dont seem to close fully. Could it be as simple as replacing this? I say simple but i would have to figure out where to get some from! May be starting to see a little spark of light at the end of the tunnel ;D

Took a late lunch today and popped into the garage. Took off the points and gave the a really good clean up and gently sanded the 2 points where they meet. Also on the plastic arm i sanded it down so the little metal pad was level with the plastic ( figured i have new ones in the post so nothing to lose!). Put it all back together and guess what.......... ITS ALIVE!   SO SO Happy! Was close to running out into the street punching the air, pulling shirt over head and shouting COME ON!!!. Actually just smiled happily to myself and went in to kitchen and made a nice brew BIG BIG thanks to everyone who helped out on this and especially Nick (Veedub1955) who has been sending me numerous email to help me though it all. Have now decided that im keeping the bike as i will find a way to get the money for the trike frame another way. Feel kinda connected to the bike now  Just a couple of jobs left like change fork oil, check gearbox oil, check gear linkage and then i can put some fuel/2 stroke in and give her a blast ( on a private road obviously officer!!! ) Today is a good day!
