The Triumph Trophy TR5 Scrambler used by actor Henry Winkler in the famous 70s and 80s US sitcom Happy Days is going under the hammer next month, at Bonhams' Classic California Sale. Off-screen, the famous bike was owned by Bud Ekins. If you have no idea who this man is, he was a Hollywood stuntman who made the legendary motorcycle jump over the barbed wire fence in The Great Escape. He also used to race motocross, so knew his way around a bike. For Mr Fonz, he simply took an old Triumph from his collection, removed the front bumper, replaced the handle bars and sprayed the tank silver. That's it. That's all the legwork necessary to transport a television icon. It's up for grabs at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on 12 November. I read about this on the net over the weekend, apparently it will need a full resto & they reckon it'll fetch around $40k I didn't think 'The Fonz' was that popular, I wonder how much one of Steve McQueen's bikes would sell for.
