Something I have noticed is the power is still being lost every now & then, the engine note changes and the speed drops away. I had the carb off last weekend (was some dirt in the float bowl which was cleaned out). I checked the seating of the diaphragm and all was good. When it loses power if I let off the throttle so there's no throttle being applied and then open the throttle again it picks up and rides fine. I'm thinking there may be some crud in the jet possibly getting stuck somewhere but not sure. The plan is to flush the tank out soon seeing as the fuel tap bowl was blocked with dirt and fit an inline filter, the fuel pipe from the tap to the carb is starting to crack where it connects to the tap so that'll be changed as well. Any ideas or am I on the right lines?

Think your on the right line mate, your doing the sort of things that should be done to cut down on the possible reasons why your bike sometimes misbehaves. Keep going feller

Cheers chap, the b*stard thing did it a few times on the way home from work tonight. Up till now it would do it once & then be ok, looks like it could be more regular based on tonights ride. Anyhoo will be booking my theory test within the next few weeks & emailed the local training centre to ask about having an assessment so they can advise how many days training I'll need to be ready for the test. Decided if nothing else happens this year I'm getting my license, I did contemplate buying a newer 125 this year & putting the test off till next year but the price of a newish 125 is crazy compared to the price of a bigger bike so that's the route I'll go. Just hoping the local test centre doesn't try blagging extra training days that I might not be needing.

The air filter element (spongy bit) was replaced with a new item about 4 months ago and is fitted correctly. There's no holes in the element or airfilter housing, its all good and tight.

Well I pulled the carb off today, had a mate over to lend a hand. The main jet couldn't be removed, there was a pin holding it in place which we couldn't shift. Also couldn't remove the float pin for love nor money Mixture screw couldn't be shifted, tried making a new slot on the head but the head is just too shot. We cleaned what we could, took it out for a run and she's no better. Plug was still whiteish) in colour so I'd say she's still running too lean but the mixture can't be adjusted. Someone has been inside this carb before, screw heads are buggered & the internals have a 'worn' look about them. I think it's time to ditch this carb and get a replacement, the engine feels strong enough but the fuel isn't right. I might have to bite the bullet & get a pattern part carb.

second hand one with a dead diaphragm? bound to be cheaper as long as you pop the bowl off and check it out before hand

second hand one with a dead diaphragm? bound to be cheaper as long as you pop the bowl off and check it out before hand There was one that got listed on eBay this weekend, BIN price of £15 + £5 postage. Should be on its way to me today. I'm wondering if it would be worth replacing the main jet as they're quite cheap (?)

Well this carb arrived this week & I got 5 minutes today to look at it, took off the float bowl & was greeted with alot of brown gunk inside, took off the top of the carb & the diaphragm seems in reasonable condition. Choke mechanism isn't working, can probably fix this with a bit of thought. I've removed the float and pin, both seem ok. I've removed the 'screw' for the main jet but can't remove the main jet, it looks like there's a pin holding it in place. Is it possible to remove it? Will get some photo's up soon. Cheers.

it should be removable, it needs cleaning like anything else, think you'll have to get a nice pic of this pin.

think you'll have to get a nice pic of this pin. As requested, The pin is on the left side. From the side. Part way through cleaning, was pretty grubby inside & out.

thats a press in part, i'd blow tru that with some compressed air and forget about it, the smallest and most likely to clog up are the main and pilot jets, it's quite clean in there apart from the bottom of the bowl.
