Well the 'can of worms' has been opened, this problem reappeared this week so I bit the bullet and with the help of some grips, got the top of the carb of. The diaphragm is fugged, 7 holes in total. I patched them with a blob of super glue, put everything back together & gave it a run up the road. Laboured, throttled like a pig & bearly reach 38mph on the main road. It was managing around 50-55 in the week, albeit a bit of a struggle so it's worse than it was. Came home, took the carb off again & 3 holes have re-opened. I've pushed it back into the shed & left the half stripped carb on the bench, hopefully someone will nick the b*stard thing in the night. Anyway, in keeping with the 'unwritten' rules here's a few pic's. As you can see, holed pretty much all the way round. Oh & this is what's left of the mixture screw. Would love to know what ham fisted monkey managed to do that, basically there's nothing left of the head so no adjustment can be done.

7 holes! i thought mine was a gutless POS with just two holes.... the glue, your only supposed to put a pin heads worth over the hole to seal it, so that it's sealed but the slide can still go up and down smooth and easy like. yours is more glue then flexible rubber. hence it won't move up and so 38mph. it'll be a rocket if santa puts the right diaphragm kit under your tree

I'm just hoping that with a new diaphragm I won't need to adjust the mixture.

Cheers for the link. Possibly, the little tag on the left hand side is different (mine is a half moon shape). I have emailed them & asked if they can supply one for the BS26SS Mikuni. As it's the weekend I haven't had much luck getting hold of anyone, should hopefully know more tomorrow when I can start phoning around.

Just called them, it's for a different model of the GN (?). The one I need they've had on back order for 6 months and don't know when they're getting any in, gutted as the cost was only £20 but the guy couldn't say how long I'd be waiting for it. Called Wemoto & they only supply a carb complete, not the diaphragm as a separate item. The carb is a pattern part as well so I'm not sure how good it will be. Tried calling the local Suzuki dealer & they're shut on Mondays. It's possible that I might have to go the route of a pattern carb, anyone got any experience with them (good, bad or ugly)?

i use a motoforce pwk copy on my runner 180, while it doesn't ooze quality and the float bowl rubber seal gave up after about 5 jet changes, for the money it's worth it. plus you'll have the slow jet fixed as well.

Well managed to find one, a friend of a friend works for Suzuki and has put one on order. Not cheap, came in at £54 with the VAT but would have been £130 without his discount. It'll come complete with the slide part as well so just got to swap the needle over & it should be good to go. It should arrive on Thursday this week.

Indeed, was starting to think that I wouldn't be able to source one. I called round to the guy's house last night to drop the money off, I showed him the old one & he couldn't believe I got any speed out of it at all. Also mentioned that if I need any other bits that I can't source he's happy to get them for me direct from Suzuki with the discount.

Picked up the new diaphragm tonight; Fitted the needle; Much better; Fitted perfectly to the carb which was a relief; Last bit to put on; Carb re-assembled; The movement of the slide was alot more slick, completely different from the old one; No photo of it back on the bike as I was looking after the little 'un tonight as Mrs Dungbug was out running tonight (weird hobby) so I didn't start re-fitting until 8.30. She fired up easily enough, gave some choke to warm her up and took her out for a run. The throttle response is massively improved, she really pulls well through the gears. I ended up behind a Punto, glaced down & was over 60 The only thing I noticed was I backed off the throttle a bit around 55 and then opened the throttle and it started 'hunting' a bit. I don't know when the plug & cap were last changed so that could be the reason or she may need a bit of tweaking on the carb. Not too worried at the moment as she's alive once again and running alot better than before so very pleased.

PMSL ;D Although she sat at a steady 60 virtually all the way to work this morning which she's never done before, throttle response is completely different.......Feels like a different bike now.
