Well went and had a play about with the Tomos this afternoon. Started like this: Then stripped the back Then the front: Love it all stripped down. Have a list of things I need/need to do: Rub down all the surface rust and POR 15 the Frame/Satin black the forks Fit Low rise handle bars I've got coming Headlight and Taillight 4 indicators Fabricate some sort of very basic side panels Strip clean and rebuild carb as the float is sticking. New plug Change Transmission fluid. Clean everything and Get it MOT'd 70cc Kit Sport pipe Bigger carb Ride the hell out of it Should hopefully get started on cleaning and painting the frame today. So should be more pics this afternoon. This one is going to be my learning curve bike, and is going to end up pretty ratty looking really but be ok performance wise. Once its pretty much to the spec above I'd like to buy a Puch Maxi and build a proper pretty, and really fast moped. Then me and my Bro can ride togehter haha.

Thanks for letting me know about it Davy.
Lewis its supposed to do 30mph stock. I'm hoping that the 70cc Kit a High Comp Head Bigger carb and Sports pipe should see 50mph. But I guess we'll see. Moparts currently have the 70cc kit with a bigger carb and head for 89Euro's........its really tempting but i'm skint.

Anyway update from today: Nice surprise when I got to my 'rents this afternoon my Handlebars had arrived so shot out to the garage to get them fitted. Got all the twist grip etc off but the normal grip would just not budge. So I got sick and stripped the back end off and started rust treating the frame. Then my mate texted me and told me to soak the bars in hot water. Did that and grip came straight off so new bars were put straight on. Gotta say I absolutely love it! However I now need to shorted most of the wiring and cables for the brakes etc. Some ropey pics as it was in the garage and the back was stripped: I'm contuinuing work tomorrow, want to get the back end of the frame and swing arm painted in Red Oxide Primer and put together then strip the engine and forks off and sort the front end. I know doing it in stages like that seems a bit daft but I'm the kind of person that if I take it completely to bits I'll never get it back together again ;D

nice looking project, loving the fins on the engine, never heard that tip for removing the grip, I usually insert a screwdriver and wriggle.

I tried the good old screwdriver and washing up liquid thing and it didn't work haha.
Question for peeps, what are the rules regarding MOT's? Do I need Indicators? Some people are saying no I don't. How about the Speedo? I just need to find out what I can get away without.

You will need indicators.
Rule of thumb: If your bike came out of the the factory without them, it doesnt need them.
If it did come out of the factory with them, it will need them.
Speedo doesnt matter either. As long as it stops fine, bike isnt bent, no play in anything, lights work, tyres have visable tread, it should be fine.

You don't need indicators on bikes built before 1991 but if it has them on they MUST be working! There are rules for lights and stuff, so it would be worth researching. May I suggest a twin enduro headlight? It clips straight on and would give the bike a bit of a modern twist. Remember to premix oil and petrol with the big bore kit as the oil pump won't be used to the high speeds! Just my two cents

Hmmmm I think this is a '92 so maybe I will need indicators. I'll read the VOSA rule book and have a chat to a guy I know who's a tester and see what he says. As for Oil, it runs on premix due to no oil pump. These A3 engins are very simple. I've been out working on the 'Ped again today. Got a couple of coats of Oxide Primer on. Then I loosely bolted it back together to give me a mojo boost: I'm very happy with how it looks..........from a distance. Need to strip the engine out and forks off to finish the rest of the frame. Then I'm going to strip the forks down and spray them all satin black. The finish is never going to be brilliant, but this is my first bike and I'm using it as a steep learning curve to try all my idea's out on. As I've mentioned once Its "finished" I would like to properly build a Puch Maxi. Powder Coated frame, Hydro Forks, Disc Brake, 74cc 6port kit, Race crank 20mm carb....*drools*

Also, I was talking to my friend's dad about the oldie mopeds, and he was saying the Tomos mopeds used to be available at woolworths? He said if he remembers correctly you can get a sweet bit of top end by merely switching the front and rear sprockets! Whether this is true, or a less-complicated way of explaining it was another matter. Have a look, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Cheers for the appreciation! Believe me it looks a lot better in the pictures than in real life. Its just a rough project that will hopefully look cool and will get me onto a ped.
Yeah changing the sprockets is one of the easiest ways to get some extra speed.
