yo, thought i'd share the nugget of nonsense that is my ls650 project. hopefully it will turn out slightly like i picture it... will see how it goes, done a few car builds but this is my first real go at a custom bike.
bought it on ebay for probably more than its worth looking like this.
about good enough for what i want but certainly bad enough to rip apart.
the kind chaps at hairybreakers in eastliegh dropped it off at my workshop for a bargain price, saved me a lot of hassle. looked at it for a minute then dashed off to the pub....
came back a couple of days later and gutted it. starting with the frame i will be eliminating brackets and oles etc i dont need, cleaning up factory welds (cant really describe them as welds they are so bad) i want the frame clean and tidy then im gonna get it shot gloss black (may do it myself if i feel like it)
fork seals made me laugh, quick mot bodge it looks like, manky old tissue stuffed between the dust wiper and seal. tasty.
offered my mates tank and seat up to see how they sit, tank will need a lot of chopping to clear the crap beneath it but no big deal.
de-mirror lugged the clutch lever and gave it a clean up and lick of paint, think its good enough to use, also quickly blacked up the headlamp bowl, think i'll keep that too.
frame is manky but not too bad rust wise, engine will get a quick clean up and paint. it ran ok so i'll leave it sealed for now, easy to pull it out again if it ever needs it.
as far as i got last night, touched up a few s**t welds and cleaned it up around the head tube, will see how it looks all filled and smoothed (as soon as i buy some wet and dry) gonna work down the frame, have swing arm out and get it all clean n primed ready for mock up of parts. started smashing up an ali seat pan, rough shape seems to fit ok so need to get it finished and mounted then the trimmer can take it
spent a small fortune on odds and sods off ebay so should have a busy few days ahead for the postie haha.
