well i recently swapped my 1992 C90 Cub.. i had 2.. so i swapped the runabout one for this….
I want to finish tarting the MZ up. the switchgear is a bit flaky around the brake master cylinder, and a few chips on the left switchgear. so i plan on taking it back to bare metal. cleaning, priming and painting with chip resist satin black. then clearing. i also want to refinish the engine mag/clutch side covers in silver vat paint, and same with barrel in black, and head in silver. the bikes done 9600 miles from new, it was restored by a aircraft engineer, he powder coated the frame, swinger, luggage rack etc and tank and side panels in silver.. powder coat i think. but could be thick paint.
Upgrades planned.. electronic regulator and rectifier, and electronic ignition, halogen headlamp bulbs, less elsewhere where possible. also want to add a 12v lighter socket, some kind of tallish flyscreen. and hard luggage if i can find a suitable pair of hard pannier.. i have a couple of biggish top boxes ready to fit.. when i choose which i will use. i think i may also get some heavier fork oil and some skugs made up instead of the usual 1" stack of 2p trick to preload the fork springs.
i want to use this as my camping and backroad bike. i go up into the highlands a lot. and some of the roads there although lovely, aren't for hooning down at warp speed mr sulu! so i think the MZ will make a budget alternative to a Beemer GS or KTM Duke… hey its still germanic! i would like to get a 301 top end to take it to 300cc.. so if anyone has one laying around.. id exchange it for some beer vouchers! same goes for any other ETZ MZ spares.
